A website is reporting that iPhones may be subject to a security threat caused by malicious Javascripts that cause a kernal panic when visiting a website with Safari. There’s no evidence that this has actually happened to anyone and there’s little that you can do about it other than turn off Java in your phone’s settings or avoid using Safari until Apple sends a patch.
I don’t intend to change anything since I only visit trusted websites on my iPhone in the first place, but forewarned is forearmed.

Is there an exploit yet or does it just cause a kernal panic?
So far all I can see is a TEST CASE that delivers a KP.
You say to turn off Java, however the iPhone does not support java,
It is a common mistake that people confuse java with javascript.
You might want to change it…
=)
Randy I know the phone doesn’t support Java. I forgot there’s always someone to pick every nit. You clearly understood my meaning. Javascript it is. I won’t be changing it. I think everyone knows what I meant just as you did.
Moreover, do people really confuse Java with Javascript? I don’t it. It’s far more likely that one isn’t feeling inclined to type the extra “script”.
Actually a lot of people confuse the 2. Especially those who are not technically minded, and a few that are.
I know people that use the 2 words interchangeably and it really bothers me! but w/e it is all up to you…
There was no confusion here Randy. As Joe rightly guessed, I just didn’t feel like typing the extra “script.”
And if this REALLY bothers you, then you might not have enough to do. Things like starving kids in Africa, people dying of AIDS, the American economy crashing, the war in Iraq - these things REALLY bother me. Not whether or not someone makes sure to be technically accurate when describing a computer language.
