Way back in 1999, Apple exhibited at CeBIT, the giant computer trade show held in Germany. That was the last time Apple made an appearance there. So it would take something really, really big to make Apple want to go drink German beer and eat sausages. Guess what that something is? Yep, the iPhone. Apple isn’t going to have a big presence at the show, but they will have the iPhone there to make people droooool.

There’s a video on YouTube called “Hidden Details From the iPhone Keynote. While the “details” this video uncovers were’nt hidden as far as I am concerned, there will arguably be folks who didn’t pay as close attention to the keynote as I did. So this video might shed some light on features that haven’t gotten much media play.

While I think this video and commentary are well done, the video’s host makes some assumptions based on skimpy information. These assumptions may indeed turn out to be true. But in at least one case, ringtones; the host doesn’t have the whole picture.

While it’s probably true that Apple and/or some third party will sell iPhone ringtones, it’s also probably true that there will be several FREE ringtones available for the phone. That wasn’t mentioned on the video. I can’t say more without burning sources. Just keep that in mind.

Enjoy the video, but keep in mind that we’re still months away from actually knowing how some of this stuff will work out.

The rumors were true. Apple aired the first iPhone commercial during the Oscars. Here’s a link to the iPhone commercial. Enjoy.

Well it looks like it was kind of silly.

Cisco Systems Inc. and Apple Inc. said Wednesday they have settled the trademark-infringement lawsuit over Apple’s use of the “iPhone” name for its much-hyped new iPod-cellular phone gadget.

The companies said they reached an agreement that will allow Apple to use the name for its sleek new multimedia device in exchange for exploring wide-ranging “interoperability” between the companies’ products in the areas of security, consumer and business communications. No other details of the agreement were released.

The companies both said they would dismiss any pending legal actions regarding the trademark.

Everyone’s trying to climb on the iPhone/lawsuit bandwagon these days.

ElectronicsWeekly.com is reporting that Quantum Research is threatening a possible lawsuit over the iPhone’s touchscreen.

I guess it’s easier to sue a big company with deep pockets than it is to actually make something and sell it.

Look for more lawsuits and threats of lawsuits as it becomes more clear that the iPhone will be a super hit.

Citigroup analyst Michael Rollins says that the exclusive US carrier deal with Apple could include payouts of up to $300 per new subscriber. The Cupertino-based company could receive between $250 and $300 for each new subscriber it helps lure to Cingular’s network, according to AppleInsider. The payouts would likely come over the life of the service contracts and represent very high-margin revenue for Apple, the analyst wrote in a research report.
